About us

Robert M. Thorstenson has been called the Favorite Son of Washington and Alaska fishing communities. When the Alaska Statehood Act of 1958 outlawed the fish trap as a means of harvesting salmon, Thorstenson founded Petersburg Fisheries, Inc., later Icicle Seafoods, and gave Southeast Alaska fishermen a market for their fish.

John Sabella was the founding editor of Pacific Fishing Magazine and a longtime fishing industry collaborator who chronicled the resources, the communities, the personalities and the lifestyle of Northwest and Alaska fishing in print and video.

Robert “Bob” Thorstenson, Jr. is a lifelong commercial fisherman whose fleet and headquarters are situated in Juneau, Alaska where the Alaska Fisherman’s Building is being repurposed as the Alaska Fishermen’s Museum.
